Looking Appreciated - Not
This is International Laboratory Technician Week. At work we are celebrating or trying to. Morale is so low that you have to lower a ladder into a deep hole to find it. On Monday we were all gifted with doughnuts in the break room. Although we all like doughnuts, and the idea behind them, it is really hard to keep New Year Resolutions to lose the holiday weight when you have a big box of sugar bombs calling your name. Fortunately for me, none of them were enticing enough to waste calories on. Others however could not resist the siren call and then felt the regret of eating the whole thing! Tuesday we were all given little "charms". I suppose they would look good on a charm bracelet or as a necklace. Most of the staff looked at them and shrugged. I suggested we could add them to our name badges. I just happened to have some jump rings and a pair of needle nose pliers... Today was originally scheduled as a luncheon paid for by management. My Chili Cook-off that was scheduled for February 8th was hijacked and moved to today. So even though we were all looking forward to a fun and tasty competition, now the staff is viewing it as providing their own lunch. I hope everyone participates - otherwise I think there will only be 3 pots of chili. On the bright side that makes me at least a 3rd place finisher!! I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. Friday is the Trivia Contest. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be fun and that everyone will participate. The negativity vortex has been swirling and I am starting to feel the pull. To combat it I was watching silly cat videos and the animated "Simon's Cat" which is infinitely amusing. How do you amuse yourself when you are feeling down?

I think the idea to attach your charms to your name badges sounds like a good one.
Enjoy both the chili and the trivia night. They both are usually fun, and hopefully will be this year also. Is there a theme for trivia night like Silly Hats again?
The Trivia is during the work day and the staff are kind of skeptical about the whole thing. I'm hoping it works well and they all are winners - not whiners.
Ps. I also enjoy Simons cat. In fact, at the gaming while up in Indiapolis, I purchased a Simon's Cat card game, which is much like UNO.
I bet it is cute!!
So funny. My boys introduced me to Simon's Cat. Music does help the winter doldrums. I turn it as loud as I can before someone in the house turns it off or down.
Chili is always good. I made a crock pot full yesterday.
Music is good - I listen in my car to and from work...
My first thought while reading what is causing the low morale?
There are days I feel rather down and usually puzzled as to why. Suspect a lot has to do with my physical condition and now my concern for husband. I either bury myself in PSP 'art' or watch some dumb program on TV to just dull my thoughts.
A nap often helps.
I wish I could nap at work. The low morale is a symptom of a dysfunctional management structure. I'm thinking we need to start putting Prozac in the water cooler in the front office!!
When I am feeling down, Amelia Bedilia always makes me smile. That and the Third Version of home alone.
Hehe! I remember the Amelia Bedelia books! I read the first couple and then out grew them. Rediscovered them when my sons were little... I think we still have a couple on the bookcase in the basement.
