  • Looking into Deep Water

The last red of the sun sinks
    Dark clouds move across water
Blue so deep it is midnight
From the depths the leviathan rises
    Fills the heavens iridescent
    Splashes as a baby joyful
    Frothing the bathwater
    My breath disappears
    Leaving only ripples and awe

This is a little something for the BigGiantScavengerHunt. I used the Poetry 101 prompt using the words: leviathan, bathwater, red, iridescent, and baby. Just today I stumbled upon the word leviathan while trying to look up whale song. Seems that once you see an unusual word it just starts popping up everywhere!  I'm having an issue with the future post feature. I edit the publish time for the morning and think it is all set but it doesn't post. Instead it just says it missed the publishing time. I then have to edit and publish immediately. This is really putting a kink in my day since the mornings are usually very busy and it is not always feasible to post let alone check my xanga during work hours... I wish I could figure it out. I'll just keep trying!

  • interesting. i noticed the future publishing feature but have yet to check it out. will do so soon to see what happens.

    • I tried again today and had to manually post. I used to always post between 6:00 AM and 6:59 AM so that my followers knew when to look for me (and to make it easier to read before leaving for work). I'm going to keep trying.

  • Yes we always have to adapt ourselves, Val.
But you are doing so well .
You are a never exhausting well of poems .
    Love

  • This is absolutely lovely :-) .

Xanga still has so many kinks. I hope they get it all worked out soon. I haven't tried future post. I didn't know it existed. Interesting. peace always

    • So strange that it is a feature but it doesn't work. I tried it again. I think I know how to make it work - you have to be logged in when it is supposed to go live. I suppose if I stayed logged on and didn't turn off my computer at night it might work... I'm going to experiment.

  • Future posting was something the old xanga did, but in my blogging hiatus, they buried it under a tab. When they first introduced it, you could tinker with the date easily.

    • This function on xanga 2.0 is right out in the open but doesn't work a spit. *sigh* I'm going to persist because I'm tenacious (which is not the same as stubborn - but you knew that).

  • Leviathan bathwater, words not normally found together.

  • Beautiful wording.....I love especially the Leviathan (a monster from the ocean deep) bathwater....

I'm trying to vision that overgrown fish in bathwater, lol!!

    • Thanks! I hope you can see with your mind's eye the water glistening as it runs down the creature when it breaches in the the light of the moon.

  • Wonderful poetry, Val, as always!

  • Hi Val, loved your poem. You sure have a way with words.

Hope your week is going well.

  • This is a good one! I can feel every line :)

  • Great poem Val. "blue so deep it is midnight!" is a beautiful image. When Saadi was a little girl, her hair was very black. The lab girls at the hospital used to say, "look at her hair..it is so black it looks blue!" Now she high lights her hair and all the beauty of the black is gone.

    • Thank you for the lovely compliment! I've seen hair that looked blue because it was so dark black - it is a most amazing color. I seem to recall a photograph of you with hair that looked that dark too!

  • I like the blue so deep it is midnight, too.
hey, we all have to take our time and figure it all out but I'm starting to feel a community again.

    • Thanks! I like that line as well. It is starting to populate with some additional xangans and it is slowly feeling like "home"!

  • Your poem is so beautiful! Shades of blue are weaving in and out of it and I find that so beautiful! Your word combos here are perfect! :-) GREAT job! A+ A-YAY-MINI! and a "REC"!!! :-)
    HUGS!!! :-)
PS...I'm having trouble with several things on the new Xanga. :-( Oh well. :-)

    • A multitude of thanks for the A+ and the vote for recommending! I'm pleased as punch that you enjoyed this poem! I wish there was a rec button too.

  • Awesome word picture!
