Seeing Apples
It is going to be a good year for apples. Everywhere I go I see apple trees heavy with fruit. So many apples that the branches are in danger of snapping from the weight! At my husband's building there is a crabapple tree so laden with tiny apples that the branches hang low and prevent cars from parking on that side of the drive.
I gather them up fresh fallen
A little bruising makes them better
I keep small and large alike
No prejudice against shape
No rejection by size or color
They are all equal
One might have been saved back
To set against teeth
But only one
All the rest go for ciderThis is another entry for the Big-Giant-Back-To-School Scavenger Hunt. I'm working in the Free For All 101 section using prompt #25 cider.

The other day I watched a humming bird buzzing about my apple tree. It was eating insects.
I want an apple tree but the squirrels are ferocious - I'd probably never see one ripen! Must be cool to see hummingbirds - I thought they only drank nectar..
Mmmmm Cider
One of the best things about fall.
I had to cut down my crab apple tree. I feel so bad about that. It had such amazing blooms in spring. But the tree was dying. so I had to take it down.
They don't live as long as an oak - shame really because they are prettier! I'm debating on what kind of tree to put in the front yard to replace the Bradford pear that we are going to take down (damaged beyond repair).
sure are a lotta talk about apples today...I'm getting better at this new xanga each and everyday...I'm thankful for each and every comment, especially yours, you have such a ... ummm ... great outlook on the cosmos, thank you so very much...eat all the apples you can is what I say...
I have 5 lbs of apples in the refrigerator right now. I love apples of most kinds.
my apple trees aren't loaded this year. I think it was because of our strange roller coaster weather this spring and summer. I look at the majority of my apples and notice they have a blight to them.
There was a severe case of fire blight a couple years back but the apple trees were replaced and it is all good this year. Hope your tree recovers.
What a good deal, free apples, sort of like mangoes over here.
I would trade the apples for mangoes any day. Mangoes are "fruit of the gods" according to my family. Just proves Hawaii is closer to heaven...
Fun poem
. I have a friend that lives in an area where they grow apples. Every year they go and gather apples and he loves fresh apple cider. peace always
I've had fresh cider on several occasions and it is hands down the best beverage ever! Of course it does have some side effects if consumed in too great a volume! hehe!
Love the poem. Love apples, too!
Thanks Chris! The apples this year have been on the expensive side and I'm hoping the glut in the market will bring the price down! We had an all time high price of $4.99 for a 3 lb bag of Gala. It was terrible. I was buying the cheap apples (mostly red & yellow delicious) for $3.99/3 lb bag. This time around I found some of my favorite Ginger Gold on sale 2 for $5 for the 3 lb bags. I bought 2 bags and I'm not sharing...
Apples...Yummy!!
Applesauce and Apple Cider time!!
It is going to be a great autumn! And tasty too!
Hi Val, we have an apple tree in the backyard and I know what you mean by this poem.
How do I rec a post now? lol
frank
Thank-you for the thought - but currently there is no way to recommend a post. The thought is enough for me! I hope you can enjoy some very fresh apple sauce this year!
We gathered probably a couple hundred pounds of apples this year and turned them all into a lovely light, dry cider! It was FANTASTIC!
Mmmm. I can only imagine that it was very good! Hope you saved some for the holidays!
Your poem is very red-delicious!!! Granny Smith and Jonathan would approve!!!

I LOVE apples!!! and all that we can make from them! They say "Autumn" in a beautiful and tasty way!!!
Gala HUGS!!!
Ida Red your comment sooner but had Rome the parking lot looking for my ride. Now that I'm home there's Mutsu to do.
Great poem....got Gala for 99 cents/lb. Wish I'd gotten more of them...big apples @ 8 oz. each. Loved your cute answer to adamswomanback too.
I like the gala but they are not as good a keeper as some of the other apples. I can be silly but I'm such a serious person all the time I have to work to find the whimsy - but my cousin is sooo funny. I'm going to have to make a point not to sit next to him at any sombre events. BTW I will put your water bottle in a safe place and try to remember to bring it when we come next.
