  • Looking Resolute Again

This is the day when many people break out the New Year's Resolutions. I dislike making resolutions (aka empty promises). Just because you write it down on a piece of paper or type it in a blog doesn't magically make it happen. As always it is more about making goals (that is a dream with a plan attached). I am very familiar with goals right now. I have several goals attached to my performance evaluation that are growling and spitting at me. There is a plan with a time line and target dates THAT MUST BE MET. It is a difficult thing to squeeze every drop of time from the day lest you fall behind. With that said, here are a few of my personal goals for 2017:

♥ Mend and organize my work uniforms. This means I will need to try them on, sort them into the keep pile versus the sell pile, and then mend the ones that need to be mended before taking them to work. My time frame is sort them all by the end of January and finish mending by the end of February.

♥ Sort my closets and pull out all the items I want to get rid of at the garage sale. Yep. Sparky wants to have a garage sale this year. The neighborhood sale is always the first Saturday of May which makes it May 6th this coming year. I will need to complete the closet purge by the last weekend in April to allow Sparky time to set it all up for the garage sale.

♥ Eat the food stockpiled in the freezer and pantry. We seem to accumulate food. With the boys out of the house we find ourselves eating multiple meals from what in the past fed 4 with enough leftover for a couple lunches. So the plan is to only purchase the necessities like produce, bread, eggs and milk. It will be good to get creative with meals and at the same time clear some of the jello and tomato soup out of the pantry.

♥ Hang the Wine and Canvas paintings I've done. Or make Sparky hang them. I currently have one out of seven paintings displayed. That is only because I already had a nail in the wall and was planning on tossing the dried flowers hanging there. Lucky for me the painting looked really good with the color scheme and style of the room. I've already decided that the van Gogh style painting will complement the basement recreation room with the already hung van Gogh prints and the van Gogh pictures rendered in crewelwork by my grandmother... The others will have to be displayed perhaps in a rotation through the family room, computer room, spare room, and my sewing room. The time frame for this to be completed is March 1st. Unless I paint another picture...

  • Sounds like you are going to be busy. I bought a new couch today and the furniture store was giving away calendars, so I took one, just in case. It has pretty scenery pictures with an inspirational quote each month. I like that it tells you where the pictures were taken. It has squares about 1 1/2", so there's aa bit of room to write. Message me your address on FB if you want me to mail it to you

  • Boo to work goals, although I do understand why they are necessary! I hope you do continue painting the wine and canvas paintings :-)

    • Not to worry. Sparky bought me two painting sessions for Christmas. I'm 94.6% done with my rewriting of the SOPs.So all is on schedule.

  • Nice goals. It is awesome that you now how to sew and mend. How long on average does it take you to do one uniform? Here, if we have stuff we want to sell there are a few good sites like mercari, thread up, craigslist or the community facebook page. You must have a lot of patience for a yard sale haha.

    • It is my diversion. The yard sales are all about the thrill of the hunt! Depending on the repair it akesa 5 to 15 minutes. Buttons or a torn pocket are quick. Replacing the elastic in the waist band takes longer.

  • I do the goals thing too, I make a couple regular goals & then a longer list of art goals. I usually meet most of the latter. Your goals are quite ambitious! Just the closets alone will probably mean many "happy" hours. ;)
    Happy New Year!

    • It is daunting but not impossible. I actually get satisfaction from straightening things like closets!

  • I found myself making a list of goals last night too. Of course they included mini goals related to health and exercise, so today when the boys suggested walking four miles to get a pizza, I checked the weather, saw thunderstorms were heading this way, told them to go ahead, I will have tuna, veggies and mushrooms at home, and drive out to pick them up after. Good decision since the storms have come now. I will get my exercise walking indoors at the mall.
I added painting to my list of goals this year, be it at a wine and canvas type event, or on my own. My easel I'm sure would love to come out of the garage again.
    Happy and prosperous 2017,

    • I bet you will do well with your goals! I got home today and the package was waiting in the pile of mail the boys collected. I LOVE the hat and it does fit!! Also the calendar is the best!!! Thank you soooo much!

  • I have a list ~ sure wonder if it will get even half done!

    • Even if it doesn't all get accomplished, it is good to check off what is done! Progress is a good thing.

  • @murisopsis: I am glad you made it safely home, and that you like your gifts.
