  • Looking the Fool

Today is April Fool's Day. I really don't much care for practical jokes. Most of the time they aren't funny. I've been on the receiving end on several occasions. Sparky learned quickly that he had better not prank me. He thought it very funny when a coworker put Saran wrap over the toilet below the seat. His pregnant wife didn't find it amusing when she had to use the bathroom and ended up cleaning the toilet, floor and changing her clothes. I was not at all surprised when she filed for divorce. The boys put salt in the sugar shaker once. They thought it great fun to watch me put "sugar" in my Cream of Wheat cereal. I again was not amused. That was the last time they tried a "practical joke" on me... Life has more than enough opportunities for us to make fools of ourselves. I do not need any help, thank you.

Today is also the first day of National Poetry Month. I will be posting a poem a day (except for Sundays when I don't blog). Because it is April Fool's Day I give you this foolish piece:

    In the can wiggle, wiggle
    On the hook jiggle, jiggle
    Take a bite nibble, nibble
    Reel it in dribble, dribble
    Caught a boot giggle, giggle

I'm poking fun at my coworker, Mr. Fudd. He is anxious for the weather to get warm enough to go fishing. He took his daughter fishing. She was very relieved when she didn't catch a fish because she is a vegetarian and didn't want to have to eat it! This is a constant perturbation for Mr. Fudd who's greatest joys are hunting and fishing...

  • I agree. I'm not keen on practical jokes made to embarrass or scare someone for the amusement of another. I hope I don't encounter any today.
I could joke and tell people I am pregnant, but I doubt anyone would believe me.

    • Hehe! I got off easy - Sparky tried to convince me to get up this morning a bit too early but the sun wasn't cooperating since I know that sunrise is at about 7:30 and since it wasn't light out I wasn't falling for that trick. I just gave him the evil eye and went back to sleep until 7:30 ish...

  • A good day for jokes, but not for pranks!

    • Here's one for you:
Why can't you hear a pterodactyl going to the bathroom?

      Because the "p" is silent!

  • @murisopsis: Haha -- that's a good one!

  • Oh, poor Mr. Fudd. My sil and grand-daughter left early this morning (it's spring break here) to go to Tenn. and go fishing. She likes outdoor activities. Her brother doesn't! I don't appreicate practical jokes either.

    • Good that she is able to get away and take her daughter too - an appreciation of nature is a valuable thing to have. Needs to be nurtured more! I think the only people who like practical jokes are the jokers...

  • I'm so glad I can't remember any pranks pulled on me, or by me. Childish most are.

April is also National Child Abuse Awareness Month and forgot the official title about fight cruelty to animals month. Both aspects in my past efforts.

  • April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals month! looked it up. :-)

  • @murisopsis: I just realized that sil can mean sister in law, or son in law. In this case, it's son in law. Megan is 15, and gets to go with her daddy until Thurs. Oh, and she's my grand-daughter, so his daughter. My family's ages are so mixed up, even I get confused.

    • Thanks for the clarification! Daughter-Daddy time is precious. Too many fathers were "hands-off" in their parenting and didn't make strong connections with their children. That has changed some but not near enough fathers are involved..
