Looking Overworked
Sparky just started his new job. He is working at Lowe's as a morning "stock boy". I'm not sure what it pays but he wants to keep busy. I'm not convinced that he really likes the hours since he keeps repeating a mantra the goes like this, "These hours are perfect. I work 5 hours and still have the whole day to do other things." So far we are 3 days into the new job and I'm not a fan. He has to be at work at 4:15 AM so he is setting his alarm for 3:30 AM. Of course I wake up. He is trying very hard to be quiet and does a fairly good job. However I'm sensitive to light and the moment he turns on the bathroom light and the hall light I'm aware. For the 45 minutes from his alarm to his leaving the house, I'm awake and asleep and awake and asleep... It is like having an infant again! I'm much too old for that kind of business. Sparky is trying to adapt to his new schedule (as am I). He is now going to bed at 7:30 PM which leaves precious little time for conversations. I come home and make dinner, we eat and then he goes to bed. He is also taking a siesta after lunch.
He was out of work since November 1st. Now that he has finally landed a job and survived the drug screening, mandatory orientation, and the on the job training provided by Lyon (a young man who was hired a scant 2 weeks before Sparky) the job interviews start to come in! He had an interview yesterday and is expecting a call to schedule another one at a different company yet this week. I'm hoping that he can get a regular 40 hour a week gig.

That kind of reminds me of the years after Wil retired from the Air Force. It took about 3 jobs until he got hired at Sea World of TX. When he retired from there he got the job here of doing dishes.
Maybe you will have to wear those sleeping shade things.
I would but I hate to have anything on my face! I once tried to wear one of those breathe-right strips on my nose. I ended up ripping it off in my sleep and that was on with adhesive. I doubt I'd be able to keep it on!
The sleeping shade things might be worth a try. Maybe one of the interviews will produce something more suitable.
He had another phone interview and they are setting up a face to face interview - probably next week. I've got my finger's crossed. He was very excited today - he got to help a customer!
I hope that the job interviews will be fruitful -- a full-time job would be much better, though it would be nice to have a whole day to do what you want to do between work hours!
He hasn't been very productive after getting off work - he goes to Planet Fitness and works out, then comes home and takes a nap. He hasn't dusted or cleaned the bathrooms in a couple weeks... I had to nudge him and he did run the vacuum. That was his choice, when he was telling everyone that he was retired he said he would do all the cleaning if I did laundry and cooked.
I don't know about Sparky, but if my husband had a part-time job at Lowe's, he'd probably be going in the hole using his employee discount. I mailed you something to help with the 4 AM disruption. Hopefully it will arrive on Saturday.
Sparky has vowed to turn off the lights as soon as possible but I still wake up. I imagine that it will become like the alarm clock after awhile - I don't notice and sleep through it. Unfortunately I'm not at that point yet... I made him promise not to buy anything we didn't absolutely need. So far he hasn't bought a thing. But I imagine the moment we need light bulbs he will be coming home with an armload!
I'm not sure I could train myself to ever go to bed as early as 7:30, but then I don't get the typical recommended 8-9hours of sleep, so I'd probably still go to bed between 10pm and one am, especially if I allowed myself a nap later in the day. But I think I might like his hours, having the whole day to do whatever! I'm sorry it's disrupting your sleep. I do understand that too. When my son's got up for school, or opening shift at their summer McD's job, I always woke despite them trying to be quiet.
As the old saying goes "This too shall pass." I hope Sparky finds happiness in whatever he ends up doing, keeping this job, or changing, and that you are able to bear it and maintain enough sleep so you can continue to perform your job rested and happy.
I'm really hoping he can get a regular job soon - at least one that pays a bit better than just above minimum wage. He really doesn't do well without at least 7 hours of sleep where I can function just fine on 5 hrs. He was joking around today and said he thought his circadian rhythm was trying to dance the samba to a waltz tune!
