Looking for My Valentine
Sparky and I have a tradition for St. Valentine's Day - we eat out at Taco Bell. It is a long story that I've told before. Anyway I decided we should continue the tradition and have Taco Bell for dinner. It is always interesting to see who is having dinner there on St. Valentine's Day. It seems there are several types represented - the "I hate this day because I don't have a sweetheart" group, the "I refuse to buy into the made-up holiday as an excuse to spend money" crowd, and the "I'm dirt poor and this is as good as a date can get" crew. I was able to people watch. I categorized and analyzed, sorted and evaluated. We sat down with our loaded tray (we splurged and spent nearly $7) near a young woman with an infant and a young man. They weren't married and I'm not even sure he was the father of the child, but he was buying her dinner. I could just over hear that he had to leave so that he could get to work on time. She kissed him good-bye and shortly after finished her meal and left. It made me a little sad that this was as good as it was going to get for her. A pair of couples came in and ordered. They were dressed up and obviously Taco Bell was not their final destination. There were several fancy events going on at some of the local high schools and this group was no doubt headed to a dance. I wondered what would have compelled them to come to Taco Bell - the munchies? Anyway, we mostly had the place to ourselves until we were about to leave. The teens that slouched in made me wonder how they didn't run into things with their hair combed thickly forward over their eyes. They ordered and sat at a small table , huddled together an odd lot of Goth teens looking morose and slightly belligerent silently eating soft shell tacos. I imagine they fell into that sweet spot of the convergence of all three categories.
What did you do to remember that special someone?

Happy Valentines Val! I stayed up till the wee hours this morning making Minion valentines for the grandkids to take to school. We colored clothes pins yellow and glued googly eyes on them, problem was the glue made the yellow paint turn blood red...it was really disgusting! We got them fixed up and wrote your one in a Minion on them, We left the hubby one on the refridgerator...next year we'll more than likely just get boxed valentines. I love Taco Bell Pizza..yummmmmm
Hey! Long time no see! I was gifted with Minion Valentines this year. Yours sound very cute and a little "gru"esome... hehehe! Taco Bell has added and subtracted from their menu this year - I'm just glad they still have the beefy 5 layer burrito!
Not much. I did find a good pic of Tom that I posted in our family FB group. I found 2 Val. Day cards in my Mom's collection, and mailed one to TX family and gave the other to next door family. Oldest son and wife visited me Sat. and brought a small heart-shaped box of chocolates. Got a card from a friend, and bought myself some flowers at Aldi's ($3.99). I might stop by Walgreen's tomorrow and get some candy on sale, but not much, and only if I absolutely can't resist it.
Sounds like a nice pre-Valentine day family time. The day after Valentine's Day is the real celebration - especially if you can find your favorite candy on clearance!!!
PS I don't remember your long story about Taco Bell. I like the chalupas there. Haven't had one for a long time.
If you click on the highlighted words "long story" it will take you to that previous entry - to refresh your memory... Sparky used to like the Chalupas but has switched to the rice and chicken burritos.
Your sister took me and Alex to the Lemon Tree (Chinese and Thai food). It was nice and we were given a long stem rose and free fancy fresh orange dessert....and have enough food left over for tomorrow!
Sounds delicious! Hope your rose lasts a few days (and Milo leaves it alone)!
You are certainly observant. Did you and hubby talk or just eat?
I got a lovely card from Wil and that was a huge surprise as it has been awhile since he bought one. I didn't get out to get him one after years of him ignoring the day.
Last week he brought home a dozen roses, white and shrimp colors. So parts of his memory were back.
We talked and watched the other people... I'm so glad Wil had a good couple days memory-wise. How sweet that he got you roses!!
