Watching the Decorations Come Down
Taking the Christmas decorations down is not as fun as putting them up. There I said it. It makes me sad to see them go back into the boxes. I suppose I need to focus on the idea that once they are stored it is a hop skip and a jump to Spring. Yep that's my focus. Spring will be here before we know it. At least I'm hopeful that it will arrive before I freeze to death. I sit here at the computer (procrastinating on taking down the wreaths and the Nativity sets) and I've got my finger-less gloves on, wrapped in my serape, with the space heater on trying to cook my feet, a CozySpot® on my lap and a cup of hot cocoa. And I'm still cold. Sparky is down stairs deconstructing the artificial tree and I really should make an appearance as a sign of support.
Christmas boxes scattered 'round
Colored lights a tangle
Cuss words echo and abound
The Christmas tree you wrangleJingle go the silver bells
Clink the sound of glass
Muffled curses "go to hells"
Assisting you I'll passPacked away for another year
Decorations must come down
Grinning from ear to ear
While you wear a frown

When we go to Florida I don't bother much with Christmas decorations. Just seems like the time goes to fast and next thing you know it's time to put them away. Glad you had a nice trip too.
We put ours up in Advent - usually immediately after Thanksgiving and they stay up until Epiphany... so we stretch the time out.
I haven't decorated for several years -- it seems such a waste when I'm gone ofgen for a week before Christmas and 1-2 weeks after. As I grew up, my birthday was often the day Christmas came down, too, which made that a less happy day!
Christmas birthdays always seem to be shortchanged in some way...
I appreciated the help I had putting things up but I started slowly so Lydia wouldn't have as much to do as she was coming after work.
Not sure about the end of this year. With Wil's memory slipping I don't know if it helped to decorate or not. Amazingly he was able to put ornaments back that I could not. I have one I've never been able to get back in the little plastic thing.
They say that mental stimulation helps - so putting the decorations away was probably a positive activity!
Started taking down I meant. Why is there no edit here? lol
The new xanga only lets the blog owner edit comments! Not able to correct typos is a real struggle for those with OCD!
Mine have been down for awhile. I had help putting them up, but took them down myself. Taking them down is always sad for me. Then I had to get the rest of my mom's stuff out of the apartment, since a gal is coming to stay in it for 6 months. She seems real nice. She's going to be helping with disaster relief for our churches. Now I'm busy trying to keep the house warm until my heater gets repaired.
Oh that sounds like an adventure! At least you will have some company every now and again!
