Looking in the Window
We spent an afternoon visiting Joe Patti's Fish Market in Pensacola. I didn't get any photos in the market because honestly there wasn't much to see. If you like to see fish on ice or shellfish vacuum packed and frozen then I apologize. Maybe next time I'll take some pictures. After we purchased the fish and packed them on ice in the cooler, we decided to take a walk around Pensacola's downtown and grab a few geocaches. It was a perfect day for geocaching and we managed to drag my sister and her husband around and found 4 caches. In the course of stumbling around looking for caches we discovered several cool things:
1. The 9/11 memorial. It was located in what was described as a small intercity part. It was more a median than a park but the monument was decorated in ceramic art.
Note the symbolism of the alpha and the omega in the photo above.
2. We went window shopping. There was a very trendy clothing store that catered to the GQ crowd. My nephew went in and I'm guessing that the prices were prohibitive. The mannequin in the window looked like a younger rendition of the butler, Lurch, from the Addams Family. I wanted to take a picture as it was so unusual. Just my luck I ended up with an "artsy-fartsy" photo. I couldn't have captured this image with the reflection if I'd have been trying...
3. My sister's neighbor, Brian, keeps an eye on the Tiki House when there are renters. He works from home and can see the house and back yard from his office. He came over to visit and was telling us all the things he's observed! You would think that people would have some decorum. Then again he does have a pair of rather high powered binoculars with which he can look into the windows!

What an interesting area surrounds the fish market! I love the 9-11 memorial, and that's a spectacular reflection shot of the mannequin!
The reflection photo was unintended. But that said I really like the way it looks. The group was impatient or I'd have tried to get a different angle to see the mannequin!
I know right where that memorial is. Yes, it's in a median, but that median in the summer comes to life every weekend with local live musicians, and a several block long farmer's market/ arts and crafts fair. Perhaps on one of your trips down you will see it busy.
A bit further down toward the water, in historic Seville area, you would have also passed a veteran's memorial park with statues for the Korean War, and WW2, as well as a long black granite wall etched with names of fallen soldiers.
We missed the Seville area but went to the art museum and an art co-op. We also went to a marina (I think) which was near a geocache. I can believe the median is busy in the summer - there were still people around o I had to wait a bit to get the photos. (There is a geocache just to one side of the median - shhh don't tell!)
I very much like your photos and how under the arch one way shows one of the many painted Pelicans from around town, and the other direction has that lovely tree lined view.
I was really trying to take some "arty" photos but I'm not very good with a camera! I'm glad you noticed my efforts!!

This photographer took some beautiful pictures of the aforementioned park.
Very neat place! I think I'll put it on the agenda for the next visit!! We noticed the pelicans decorated for all the branches of the military and also the one at the newspaper - neat!
I love that picture you tried to take of the Mannequin. It is so unusual. You are right, I am sure if you tried to take it again, you wouldn't be able to capture the same essence.
Thanks Zakiah! I sometimes get lucky with my photos but most of the time they are an accident!
@murisopsis: hehe -- so that's a pelican>!
Yep! I suppose I should have described the surroundings better - from the photo it could have been Pegasus! But yes it is a pelican statue kind of like the Elephants you posted awhile back...
I love the 9-11 memorial, it is very beautiful. As far as the fishmarket goes, I've never been to one.I passed by a few ones which oddly enough had frogs as well. The window watching of the Tiki House through binoculars is a bit scary I must say haha.
There are lots of interesting things to see if you look for them... As for the neighbor with the binoculars, he doesn't really look into the windows so much as watches the backyard. There were some renters who were not following the house rules about using the pool and he was able to let my sister know before damages were made that would have been very costly! The community has banned diving boards due to the danger of injury and death. Even though there is a place to install one it is missing... you can just imagine the shenanigans some people get up to when they have been drinking too much.
Spying in the window peeking in the locks.
Reminded me of the nursery rhyme when you mentioned the binoculars.
Are the children in their beds for it's now 8:00.
Looks like you had fun. Was it warm in Pensacola? Sometimes I wish Indiana was a warm place but I think I'd miss the seasons. Having cold makes me thankful for warm!
We had temps in the 70s and it did drop to the 50s on a couple days but still sunny and pleasant. I would miss the changing seasons too. Still it was a welcome escape!
@murisopsis: Ooh -- I like the idea of painted pelicans around town!
We saw about 6 and they were very well done. Still they weren't as nice as the elephants, buffalo, or horses I've seen while traveling.
Again I'm behind in my reading.
I really like the memorial and as for the window, I can't imagine how else you would of angled the camera position for that. I probably would of been brazen enough to walk inside and get permission. Then again anyone I would of been with would have objected.
I'm not a photographer so all my efforts are more of less just luck. I kind of wanted to be able to show you all the face of the mannequin because he really did look like a young Lurch!!
What an interesting memorial ~
It was really intricate. A lot of the details don't show up - like the words peace written in every language, and the patterns stamped into the ceramic tiles. Of course there was lots of Christian symbolism - did you see the alpha and the omega on the back side of the monument?
