Looking at Orbs
I was trying to make this coccolith - a undescribed dimorphic heterococcolithophore found in the Western Mediterranean in the very fertile Alboran Sea (one of my favorite places for coccoliths).
Of course I failed to print it out so I was trying to copy it based on what my smartphone was showing me - a tiny 2" x 2" image in gray scale that I was staring at in dim lighting. At the time I thought, "Wow, that was so much easier than going through the hassle of printing the images". After it was bisque fired and glazed I decided to print out the electron micrograph image. Imagine my chagrin to see that my orb bore little to no resemblance to the photo! Of course the glaze job was perfect. The color came out vibrant. It didn't crack or run or have any defects at all.

I love the orb. The first picture is fascinating. I would love to have a scanning electron microscope to carry with me. Sigh. Maybe that's not what took the pic but I would like one anyways.
Haha! I don't think the electron microscopes are portable just yet!! It is an electron microscope image though. I'm pleased you love this effort. I was making it and thinking what a good job I was doing only to see that it wasn't quite what I thought I'd seen... Serendipity happens!
But it's so pretty!
Thanks! I do like the way it turned out but it doesn't match the photo very well. Still it has great color!
The glazing did come out perfect.
I was very surprised that the color came out just as I had hoped... Small victories!
All you have to do is rename it and then it's perfect. Wouldn't it be great if everything in life had such a simple solution?
I'm open to suggestions... Except for "Bob" there are too many things with the default name of Bob!
I love SaintVi's solution! It even allows you a second attempt at this cocolith! I like the way this one came out, even though not what you expected!
I'm open to naming suggestions.
Ha! How about something like "Undescribed Alboran"?
So far that's the best suggestion!
