Looking Squirrelly Again
The war on the chipmunks in the garden rages on. It was so bad this last weekend that Sparky spooked one out of the garage. He responded by setting the trap. After only a few minutes (he was talking with neighbors on the driveway) he heard the trap rattling indicating it had been sprung. It was a squirrel. Not just any squirrel but one suspiciously like the previous unfortunate that ended up trapped. He released the captive. The squirrel went free. He hadn't been in the trap long enough to eat the peanut butter so Sparky simply reset the trap. We had to go to a geocaching meeting in the afternoon. Upon our return the trap was once more sprung. Hoping that the chipmunk would be able to be placed in the "witness relocation program" we rushed to the trap. And there he was - that same stupid squirrel. He bent the release mechanism, again. He was once more very indignant that he was stuck in the trap and had no qualms about letting the world know. He was huffing and puffing and making little barks and chirps of anger and distress. I took his mug shots and then Sparky released him. He shot out of the trap like his tail was on fire. As he reached the fence he leaped nearly to the top in a single bound. From the top of the fence he cussed and fussed a moment before flicking his tail in a fit of pique. From his vantage point on the fence he glared at us before streaking down the fence and hurtling down the path.

Hopefully the third time's the charm and that squirrel has learned his lesson and won't be back!
I hope so. He was rather unrepentant the second time. The third time in the trap I think I had him believing he was going to be a snack. I hope he leaves and never comes back... at least stays out of the trap!!!
Why make you the war on this elegant small rodent such chipmunk ?

You know the squirrel's smell attracts squirrels !
Courage !
Love
Michel
Ah Michel! The chipmunks are ruining all the squash by biting holes in them. They have tried to hide their winter food stores in the garage. They must go!! We are offering them free relocation to a more rural setting.
Poor dumb squirrel. We once were inundated with chipmunks, so we got a cat. She was a good chipmunk catcher for a few years. Then she got old and lazy, and wanted to just stay inside and sleep. I decided I'd rather have chipmunks than have to take care of a litter box.
The mice stay away but the chipmunks are everywhere! They have chewed through the water lines in the automatic sprinklers in the yard. They have clogged the downspouts. They have decided the bottom of the grill is a cozy spot for a summer home. If Sparky wasn't allergic to cats we definitely would have one!!
Maybe the squirrel needs a relocation program of his own.
Next time in the trap he will be taking a trip - saying farewell to family and friends and never returning home... I hear that there are some nice trees on the other side of the river and beyond the highway!
Squirrels keep tripping our chipmunk trap too ~ aggravates hubby no end!
Sparky put out the trap this afternoon and came home to find it tripped but nothing in the trap but ants. Perhaps he'll have better luck tomorrow.
