Looking Near Death
Once again a friend has stopped posting on xanga. Char aka cjc2 (at cjc2.xanga.com) has announced that she is leaving xangaland. Not that she wants to but the xanga team has failed to provide a means to renew subscriptions. This has been a major beef of mine with Xanga 2.0, namely that there is no easy or obvious way to exchange money for a subscription. If I were going to charge people to blog on xanga the first and I mean the very first thing I would have done would have been to put a giant link or button with arrows and a flashing graphic that said HERE is where you subscribe!!! It has appeared that xanga has been set up to fail. The process to renew a subscription is convoluted and cumbersome. The ability to start a new blog and attract new people to xanga is a complete mystery. There is no obvious method available. Right now there are only a few people who post regularly - Crystalinne, kwantifiable, and slmret. The rest that show up in my feed are always a treat but do not blog on a daily or even weekly basis - fwren, judyrutrider, twoberry, Bookmark61, saintvi, cjc2, mcbery, sexydevilgirl, gasdoc73, and ZSA_MD. This year so far has seen an exodus of many of the familiar faces. I really miss NVRASADDAY aka Frank, and Michel and so many more. Why Xanga? Why?

I miss Frank too. The only ones I can read without a subscription are yours, mcbery, fwren, Crystalinne, and simret. I can't even get to saintvi, unless she links it to FB......then I can. I think you must be right. It was set up to fail. So sad.
I hate to be right about some things... I have met so many wonderful people on line and then in person through xanga. It really was marvelous!
Amen ~ I miss so many subscribers of old ~
Yes I do too. There used to be all kinds of excitement. I never wanted to get hung up in the drama but it was good for a laugh now and again!
I, too, miss a lot of the 'old' bloggers. I feel a little guilty that I'm posting less frequently than I used to -- I take the camera out less often than I used to, and often it seems that there's nothing new going on. I hope that, as the weather turns to fall and 'winter,' I'll be back into my groove. I agree, though, that Xanga is set up to fail -- or to limp along, at best! I was thinking this morning that I should learn how to post on WP first and copy to Xanga, just in case ~ ~ ~
I tried to set up a WP site but gave up after a very frustrating couple of hours! I may have to revisit it. Your plan sounds good and I should follow your lead.
@murisopsis: I also tried to to get a WP site and gave up. At least a few people on FB put links to their Xanga posts, like Saintvi and Michel. I receive cerwindoris' posts on e-mail, as well as usually see them on FB. Did you know OldHat? He posts on FB. If it's a long post you have to click on see more, but then you can read it all. Even so, it's not the same community feel that Xanga had.
FB has its moments but it is more ads and "suggested" links and stories. I googled shoes and now all the FB suggestions and all the ads on the side are for shoes!
@ata_grandma: I put links on Facebook too ~ it does help a lot ~
@slmret: I don't post as often either ~ I think I just don't have as much desire to process hundreds of pictures like I used to!
@fwren: Yes, I forgot to mention you in my previous comment. So do a couple of others.
I can't think of anything I miss more than the old Xanga.
I agree and mourn still the passing of xanga. The new one that rose from the ashes is not a phoenix - just a singed and ash covered shadow of that beautiful bird that was xanga...
