Looking to See Clearly
On my mother's last day of her visit with me she managed to lose her new glasses. I looked all over the house. I examined the cars. We double checked all her purses. I went through the packed suitcase. After she left I deconstructed the guest room. I called all the places we stopped that day - Batteries + Bulbs, the Apple Store and the Mall food Court, and Goodwill. No one had found them (turned them in) in any of the locations. Then it dawned on me that I hadn't called the Wellness Center. She had been reading a People Magazine while I picked up my prescription. Perhaps it was there. No. They didn't find any glasses. The glasses were progressive bifocal lenses and they were causing her some difficulties in getting used to them. I'm rather peeved that they've gone missing. The woman I spoke to on the phone at Goodwill was very dismissive and almost rude. She didn't want to physically go look for them and basically said that no one had turned in any glasses... I am going to stop in this weekend to see if they have them. That will be my last hope. If they are not to be found, I think my mother will have to go get another pair. Perhaps she will go ahead and get the old fashioned lined bifocals as they might be easier for her to adjust to. I can relate to her wanting to see clearly as I have to switch back and forth between 2 different pairs of glasses. My work glasses are the same prescription as my home glasses however they are not the same! My work glasses are heavy with thicker lenses because of the material that they are made of. I think the focal spot is different on them too.
To finish sooner the Laziest Summer Scavenger Hunt I am going to leave you with this little poem using prompt #75 - tests.
We are a strange people
Fixated on tests and testing
We test into kindergarten
And test out of classes
We test the waters
And test our meddle
Make tests of ice thickness
And bone density
And still we break
Through ice and bones
Give a test and disregard
The results in favor of
The touch test
To determine how hot
It really is…

I hope she finds her glasses! I can relate to the need for them.
I hate medical tests but I suppose they're necessary. Just feel like people are a huge medical experiment sometimes. The older we get the more we feel that way, I think. That's why older people sit around on benches and look grouchy and bewildered. Everyone's taking their money and still asking questions as to whether or not the medication is helping!
It doesn't look promising. I think they are gone forever unless they show up in her suitcase somehow... There are lots of doctors that are test crazy - they want to do tests even when they know the answers they will get! Shame on them!!
I have had thousands of tests, but I made it to 83. All those who told me coffee was bad for me are dead.
We take tests all the time. I like passing them and hate failing... Coffee seems to be the elixir of health for you!!
I hope you can find the glasses. I too wear progressives. They can be expensive, and yes, they take a bit to get used to, but are good once you do.
I have looked and tried and will make a last ditch effort tomorrow but the outlook is bleak.
What a frustrating thing! Makes me think of the saying, "How can I find my glasses when I need my glasses to see where my glasses might be?!!"
Hehe! Yes. But she had her old pair of lined bifocals and her reading glasses so she isn't blind. I just hate the idea that she is out the money because they are lost. I am hoping they turn up...
I also hope you find them- maybe underneath some couch cushions.
I wish. But no they are, I'm afraid, gone for good.
I have a friend who continually runs around the house asking where are my glasses -- problem is, there are 4 or 5 different pairs, and when you find one or two, they're not the right ones!
My mother has multiple pairs of sunglasses and dollar store "cheaters" all over the place! She must have brought at least 3 pair of sunglasses and 2 pair of prescription glasses with her!!!
New glasses but keeping my Peepers handy by the computer. New ones are also progressive lenses but a newer prescription and getting a bit more used to them...wearing them all day long.
We went to all the Goodwills and asked about the glasses. Rummaged through the box at Grape Rd but there weren't any that could have been yours unless you had black plastic frames or lined trifocals...
