Looking Maternal
Dumbo’s daughter was a shy thing at eight years of age and terrified to be sent to live with a father she had only met four times in her life. Her name was awful, Lucretia Indigo Dumbkowski, at least that was how she was identified on the custody agreement. I must have scared her shitless when I looked her over and asked her what she wanted to be called. Her answer was a shrug with eyes like saucers. Maybe it was mean but I announced that I’d call her Blue. Dumbo just smiled. Seems he had no say in the naming and had never addressed her by anything other than “honey”. With a sheaf of papers held together with a paper clip, Dumbo became the sole guardian of Blue. Her entire wardrobe and bedroom contents arrived at Dumbo’s apartment over the course of the next couple of weeks. He had to get rid of his weight bench and assorted exercise equipment in the other bedroom but it all worked out. Everything changed. Suddenly I realized that I could fall in love with Blue if I let myself. Dumbo was a good father but he wasn’t a mother. The Captain took Dumbo’s new role as a dad into consideration with scheduling. When I asked to have a different partner everyone assumed that it was because I didn’t like the disruption his fatherly duties required. What it meant was that I was going on nights and he was taking days so he could be home when she was sleeping and I was home when she was at school. That way he would get her breakfast and off to school and I’d make dinner and help with homework. It was a sweet arrangement. No one was the wiser since I had told everyone that I was moving back in with my parents and all my mail was being delivered there. Although my parents were not thrilled that I was “living in sin”, my mother was in seventh heaven to be called Granma Evans and adored Blue. Whenever we had cases that required either of us to work overtime, my mom was right there at Dumbo’s door ready to be the best grandma in the universe.
Here is the last chapter in the Det. Evans story for this go round. Please be kind and realize that if I do another Scavenger Hunt I might add to this, maybe, if the rules are a little different... I used the August Scavenger Hunt meditations #30 indigo and #31 paperclip.

Took me a while to find you in the new Xangaland, but I'm getting the hang of it. How can you NOT love a child named Blue? Hugs!
Hehe! Yeah, had to work the brain cells to fit indigo into the story and then make Det. Evans make it real!
Oh, I do hope that Det. Evans will be revived soon -- it would be fun to see how he does with Blue and 'you' in this new arrangement. I've enjoyed this series!
Thanks Janet! That you want more means I did something right!
Dumbkowski? Dumbkowski?
I guess I'd rather be called a smart ass then a dumb cow - erm - ski!
My Det. Evans just lovingly calls him Dumbo!
I love this and that you called her Blue! You are one of my favotitest writers! I want the whole book!
Thanks tons Beth! If I ever put into book form I promise you an autographed copy!
I will look at these two, or I should say three since Blue is in the picture, much differently. I had no idea that they were "involved" with each other. This is a great series.
As soon as I find the like or Rec button, I will push it.
Thanks so much John! You must have missed some of the earlier episodes... Dumbo has worked hard to convince Det. Evans to give him a chance. The fact that you want to recommend this makes me happy.
I made it acros to 2.0 and I'm here lurking
Back to your normal mode... Good to know you are standing guard against the trolls!
Oh you brought D Evans to 2.0 lol
Hehe! Yeah, I had to! She was scheduled as a future post on 8-31 and xanga went off line before she went live! Had to repost - didn't want to leave people hanging! (I have to have closure!)
You know if I didn't come here I would have never gotten your reply. They have to fix this. No one knows that I replied to their comments too. Hope they fix this.
btw nice to see you, I was wondering about you not posting for a week?
I was seriously having xanga withdrawal. Bow I know I have to go back ad revisit every post to see if there is a reply!
I'm not an Evans fan but ok if she has to stay. lol you won't get this too.
I did git it.. hehe!
OOH!I love her name! Blue is such a beautiful color and represents so many beautiful things in the world!

Great next chapter! Glad you are continuing the story!
Darn it upsets me that I can't "rec'" or "like" this post!
HUGS!!!
PS...You look sharp in your photo, Mousey!
Thanks! I hear that they are going to "fix" the lack of the like button... at least I hope so. I do wish we could reply to comments as on the "old" xanga. I don't have any idea what other comments are and that leads to repeating myself or repeating others!
I love this too....especially since I had a Grandma Evans whom I called Grandma Bessie...as you did also. My only problem is I miss the list of my subscriptions that was on the left side of my screen so could just click on them to read their posts!
There are many changes - I'm reserving my decision on good vs bad changes until I figure out some of the navigation!
I never got yours, I hope they fix this part of it, no notification makes it difficult.
good one! jill
Thanks! hehe!
Oh wow! A ready made family!! I like this, but....It is written in such a way, that it's really not the end....More awaits!!
Great writing, as always....
Thanks! I may, if the mood strikes me, continue it. Right now it is a good stopping point!
So great to see you here. Despite the temporary(?) quirks and flaws, Xanga lives!
And I know it's you writing because so few others do it so 'knowingly', a high compliment. Must have become a bit easier to write installments as the characters acquired a sort of gravitas over time.
(I haven't as yet checked what's left of my site; too busy reading posts. And the fact that it puts you right up there in the Reader, yeah, warms the heart. Now I just need to pay for an active site and we're almost right back to heaven as we knew it/JS
Quick! Go active so I can be amused and confused! I'm so glad to see you here!
I must get back to work...but please do continue...I have a cousin who's eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue...we call him Blue <3
