Looking at Old Technology

This last week I had a scare. My aging palm pilot (m500) refused to write, then it refused to go back to the menu, then it wouldn't charge. I did everything I could think of including resetting it. My ministrations appeared to bring it back to functionality. Now it has happened again. It won't let me erase a note. The screen is not responding to the stylus or the buttons. The situation is grim. I love my palm pilot. I know that it has been made obsolete by the fancier color screens and the internet capable units. The beauty was in the simplicity. Mr. Spock had his ever ready Tricorder. He took readings, determined environmental parameters, and used it as a GPS. The Doctor had a sonic screwdriver. He could lock and unlock any door and more. As for protection there is nothing better than a Jedi light sabre. Of course it won't do you much good unless you know how to use it. All of them had the technology that allowed them to not only function but to excel in their missions. I'm no different. Take away their technology and they become stranded, defenseless, and lost. I too am feeling lost without my Palm Pilot. I could record data and then sync it with my computer. I could communicate effortlessly with the supervisors by beaming forms, documents, and even calendar events.  I feel a little behind the times but don't want to give up the ease and utility of my palm. *SIGH* Perhaps the boss still has his palm and I can use that one?! He never did get the hang of it and I bet it is in "like new" condition...

OMG!!!! I completely understand!!!
I am just like that...with my Paradise Pink lipstick!!!
lolol

Just as we were pulling out of the driveway to go to Galveston, I got a stricken look on my face and panicky said, "Ohmygosh......we gotta go back!!!"
"What?? Why? What's wrong??"
"I forgot my lipstick! I have to go back. I have to have my lipstick," in a voice that suggested I had forgotten my oxygen tank next to my hospital bed.
long pause.
"You scared me. I thought it was an emergency," in a so, "I am not very impressed" voice.
"It IS an emergency!"

Good golly, how much clearer do I have to state the direness of my situation??? lol\\

Hope you get another Palm Pilot. :)
Wouldn't want you to feel naked or anything!

@sweet_sinceritee - I understand the lipstick - my mother feels naked without it. As for me, it is more a defenseless/unarmed feeling. I have my trusty Palm charging overnight - I'll see if it can hold the charge and respond (eternal optimist). Cross your fingers.

Good morning

OMG

(laughing...laughing)) I completely don't understand - ha...paper???... let me recalibrate - er - sharpen my pencil. HA!((laughing...laughing)) Oh, right, I'm the one person in the western hemisphere who doesn't own a cell phone . . and (what's worse) wouldn't know a palm pilot if it walked up and bit me! HA! ((laughing))  Still, I'm crossing my technology challenged fingers for you...S, thinking: no wonder they only let me play with clay!

My Palm Pilot died. I didn't have to worry about losing important work-related notes, and I had the events marked on other calendars around the house, but I lost my addresses and I'm still bummed about that.

Hang in there!
We all have our technologies that we would be lost without. And it's always a pain to have to learn new gadgets, for me anyway. We don't have a landline, so I would be lost without my cell phone...it has all my numbers in it. I guess I should really back them up, huh? Hope you find a 'like new' palm pilot.

I never had one, but I do keep a lot of info now in my cell phone.  When it went MIA, all I could think of was the info I had stored in it.  I love technology; I embrace it.  I just hate losing it or when it goes south.  : (  Good luck!

My favorite piece of technological equipment from the beginning to the present is my radios. It still fascinates me how that little box can pick up people's voices far away. It is awesome--since I was a child who had his own bedside radio before any other kid in my neighborhood. The Walkman radio is a magnificent piece of equipment. Unmentioned in the Digital TV alert, is my Walkman lost TV sound. I learned the receiving TV news with sound only is so much superior to actually seeing and hearing the news on TV.

Whether it is your palm pilot, or Tee's lipstick, I completely understand.k

blessings

@BianchiStreet - Thanks for the mini and the rec but especially the good wishes. The Palm is like a note pad, spreadsheet, calculator, address book, calendar and organizer that fits in my pocket. I can draw pictures (which I do all the time) to explain procedures or write notes. It also has a clock that I can set so I'm never late to a meeting ... the boss has been in meetings all morning... biding my time...

@saintvi - I hear you.

@WakeUpLaughing - Yep. Backing up is always a safe bet. My palm is backed up to the computer so I'm safe in that regard. Thanks for the mini - I am indeed hanging...

@Jillycarmel - Yes very much like them.

@adventofreason - Like I said above - backing up info like that is important! Don't wait - do it today.

Hehe. You should update to new technology- it's there to make things better even if it takes a little effort initially!

Update to old technology. My palm dies every six months or so when I tear out the last sheet.  Then I upgrade to a brand new one with blank pages.

@Dezinerdreams - It was provided by my employer - I'm not using my $$ to provide the upgrade they should do.. the boss is trying to locate his palm (put it in a box somewhere in the chaos that is his office...)

@OldDogSparky - uh huh. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that...

I feel so behind the times technologically (is that a word?) speaking! But then I was born in 1932 when people were still getting used to radios.

@sweet_sinceritee - That is so me and Saadia, my daughter. After a few incidents like this, we always keep some sort of the most fav lipstick in our purses. This was a funny comment T.

Val, I know exactly what you are talking about. I couldn't  use the charger to my cell phone. The flat thingy that goes inside the phone was apparently loose and didn't fit it just right. So every morning for the past three mornings, it read, " unable to charge".  I was so worried why the thing was not charging. So now I have a new charger.
But, on a more serious note, I have never had a palm pilot. I have a small diary in my purse that I write all the necessary things like appointments for pedicure, manicure, massage, etc. Any way hope your boss can get you something nice and cool.

@ZSA_MD -

;)
...well, the sad thing is that I do too! I had switched purses, thus my pained predicament! ;)
The good news is that while in Galveston, I was searching for something in the van and came across another tube of Paradise Pink that was practically brand new and that I had misplaced some months back so, voila! I have a spare! :)
Totally made my day! ;)

I was recommended to come here by Anversadadday and was snoopping around. I have two Palm devices you can have for the cost of shipping. Which one you want the Palm M500 or the PalmM505? The last one is better with color. Also do you want the keyboard? Message me if you do....

@PPhilip - You are very generous! The boss is still trying to locate his in the black pit that is his office (he claims he knows where things are - until he loses them...) Hopefully he will find it over the weekend. If he fails I just might take you up on your offer. Thanks Again!!
